The International Audiotex Regulators Network (IARN) was formed in 1995 as a forum for the exchange of information and the encouragement of good practice among its members. It currently has members from 17 countries all of which are involved in the regulation of, or the setting of standards for, the content and promotion of Premium Rate Services (audiotex) in their own countries

The forum meets twice yearly, usually in May and November, when Regulators have the opportunity to exchange information on issues of common concern and to familiarise themselves with technological and other developments in the field of telecommunications. These meetings are hosted by member-countries of IARN. Ireland has hosted two meetings, 1995 and 2000.

A key role of IARN is the provision of Guidelines in handbook format to advise members, consumers and service providers on:

  • Requirements to assure consumer protection when using national or international premium rate services

  • Procedures to deal with consumer problems arising from such services.
A mechanism, based on responsibility to the regulatory code in the home member state, is now in place in IARN member countries.
